SLEEPY FOX'S NEXT
THE CHELMSFORD STAKES (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Rec. 12.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Sept. 3. Sleepy Fox's hollow win in the Canterbury Stakes has scared most of his rivals out of next Saturday's Chelmsford Stakes, nine furlongs, weight-for-age. The race now looks a match between Sleepy Fox and the champion three-year-old, Magnificent. Because of race conditions, both will carry 71b over their weight-for-age weight. Sleepy Fox will carry 9.6 and Magnificent 7.8. The connections of Removal and Shannon said their horses would not contest the Chelmsford Stakes, because they thought Sleepy Fox would be too good at weight-for-age over nine furlongs. The New Zealander is the pros- j pective favourite for the race. RECORD STAKE MONEY. ' A Melbourne message states that the Victoria Racing Club has increased its prize-money for the Melbourne Cup Meeting to the record sum of £37,000 for three days' racing.
