BRITISH WARSHIPS IN TOKIO
BAY
LONDON, September 2. The Admiralty in London has announced that the following British ships were in Tokio Bay during the signing of the Japanese surrender:— Battleships: King George V and Duke of York, with escort destroyers Whelp and Wager. Cruisers: Newfoundland and Gambia. Destroyers: Terpsichore. Teazer, Tenacious, Troubridge. Termagant, Quality, Barfleur, "Wrangler, Wakeful, Wizard, Napier, and Nizam. Fleet train ships: Dingledale, Carelia, Waveking, Fort Wrangel. City of Dieppe. Hospital ship: Tjitjalengka, with the escorts Speaker and Ruler. Sloops: Pheasant, Crane, Woodcock, and Whimbrel. Frigate: Derg. Mine-sweepers: Ipswich, Ballarat, Pirie, Cessnock. With the exception of the Duke of York and her escort, nearly all had been at sea continuously for more than 55 days. Naval aircraft from the Indefatigable patrolled Tokio Bay during the ceremony in company with United States naval. aircraft.
