BUILDING COSTS
Sir, —Your correspondents on this subject appear to have overlooked one or two important fundamentals —in other words, the main reasons for high building costs. Here they are:—(D The most glaring culprit is, of course, taxation, tax on material and labour. (2) Man-power regulations wherein little or no discipline can be exercised in industry. No right to "hire or fire." Union regulations carried to excess. (3) Cost plus basis wherein inefficiency pays big dividends. There is no Royal Commission necessary— just a little ordinary common sense. — I am, etc., BRAKES OFF.
