BRITAIN WANTS MORE COAL
Rec 9 a.m. LONDON, September 2. The Minister of Fuel, Mr. E. Shinwell, has sent a message to all sections of the coalmining industry appealing for a great effort to increase the coal output before the winter. "The country is in desperate need of more coal if we are to meet winter needs," he said. He repeated the Government's pledges to nationalise the industry and improve the conditions of miners. Meanwhile they must have more coal. He requested the miners to aid m attaining the target of an extra 8,000,000 tons before April, 1946.
