STILL MOUNTING

TOLL OF ATOMIC BOMB VICTIMS

Rec. 11.30 a.m

NEW YORK, Aug. 29

The effects of the atomic bomb are still adding to the death-roll at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, says Tokio radio, quoting a university surgeon. A healthy woman at Hiroshima who apparently suffered only a minor bruise, complained ten days later of growing weakness. Tests revealed only one-tenth of the normal number of white blood corpuscles and two-thirds of the normal red corpuscles. In the next four days her hair began to fall out and the bruise became worse. Despite transfusions, she died nineteen days after the bombing. Post-mortem examinations showed changes in the blood-making organs.
