RUMANIAN PLOT

CHARGES AGAINST MEN

LONDON, August 28

After Bucharest radio said that the Rumanian Ministry of the Interior announced that the police have discovered two terrorist organisations which they allege planned to overthrow the Government and assassinate its members, it was said that the members of one group, 20 of whom were arrested, were officially described as "hirelings of the former Prime Minister, Radescu." They are accused of trying to create discord among the United Nations and of seeking foreign support for the realisation of their personal and political ambitions. Britain has agreed to an American proposal that the Governments should accept the invitation of King Michael of Rumania to assist the country in forming a new and more democratic Government in Bucharest. Russia's reply to the proposal is awaited.

PEASANTS AND SOCIALISTS Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON, August 29. Bucharest radio announced that 37 persons had been imprisoned in Bucharest following the round-up there and J charged with planning the overthrow of the Government, the murder of members of the Government, and the organising of armed risings. Reuter reports that those arrested include several members of Dr. Julius Maniu's Peasant Party, and also followers of lon Fluenas, ex-leader of the Socialist Party. The Peasant Party, with the Liberal Party, forms the chief opposition to the Groza Government, which Mr. Ernest Bevin has described as not representative of the majority of the people. Groza recently ignored a request from King Michael for his resignation.
