FURTHER EVENTS DECIDED

Further important events were decided yesterday in the Wellington Competitions Society's festival. Sixty-five competitors took part in the sacred solo event for women, Mrs. Patricia Newson, of Christchurch, being placed first, with Miss Mona Ross, Cambridge, second. The solo song by a New Zealand composer was won by Miss Renais Gage, Hastings, Miss Shirley Austin-Turtle, Wellington, and Miss Patricia Barry. Nelson, being placed second.equal. Misses Gage and AustinTurtle will sing tonight in the finals of the Wellington elimination contest for the Melba Scholarship. Only one event was decided at the Wellington Competitions Society's festival this morning. This was the vocal solo for ladies 18 and under 21 years, and it was won by Miss Rita Sanger, of Auckland, with 86 points. Miss Cecilia Hammond, of Ohakune, was second, with 86 points, and Miss June Berry, of Hastings, third, with 85.
