FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD
O.C. PALMERSTON N., This Day. The last meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board received a letter from the Marine Department suggesting that the time had arrived when the board should cease to function. Apparently the Department, in view of the fact that there has been no shipping in •or out of Foxton for a number of years, has come to the conclusion that a Harbour Board is not necessary now. There has been nr pilot at the Manawatu Heads for a long time, and the board is doing little more than administering its endowments at the Heads. Should the Harbour Board comply with the Denartment's request the endowments will have to be taken over by some other local body and the alternatives suggested are the creation of a town board or administration by the Palmerston North City Council as a seaside resort for the ciiv. The second alternative seems to be" favoured most by those who have houses and sections at the beach. The Wsiroa Harbour Board, which was in a position similar to the Foxton board, vent out ■<->■•■ o-rictoppp rp'-pnfly.
