"■ NEW YORK, August 23. The Washington correspondent of tha"Herald Tribune" says informed diplomats asserted that the United States does not question British sovereignty in Hong Kong, and feels that the future of the island is a matter for the British and the Chinese to settle. They said that the present policy is at direct odds with the personal beliefs of President Roosevelt, who favoured the ter-, mmation of British sovereignty in Hong Kong and envisaged eventual self-government for many of the Far Eastern territories which at present are administered by foreign Powers.
