NEW YORK, June 24.
ToMo radio says the Japanese had completely cheeked Allied landing attempts in the area of Balik Papan, the oilfield port in eastern Borneo. The radio said that the enemy's intention to land at Balik Papan had been demonstrated by repeated air attacks, naval bombardments, and mine-sweeping. Lightnings and Thunderbolts attacked yesterday as surface craft appoached the Japanese positions and exchanged fierce gunfire with the shore batteries. •
There has been no confirmation from Allied sources of this report Of an Allied landing attempt.
