SYRIA & LEBANON
DECISION BY THE TWO GOVERNMENTS
LONDON, June 22. A joint communique has been issued by 'the Syrian and Lebanon Governments following a meeting on the Levant crisis in Damascus yesterday. According to the French news agency, the Governments agreed, with the backing of the Arab League Council to take steps to dismiss all French civil servants, to take over all troops under French command, and to evacuate all other French forces. Both Governments reaffirmed their determination that no Power shall be granted any special concessions or position in the Levant. Another communique, issued by the Lebanon Foreign Minister, quoted by the French news agency, recalls, as it puts it, the British Government's undertaking to withdraw its troops on the Lebanon Government's first request. The communique says it_ is obvious that the Lebanon decision concerning foreign troops will be extended to all countries with armed forces in the Lebanon.
