BRETTON WOODS
BRITISH INDUSTRIALISTS' SUPPORT
LONDON, June 22,
The Federation of British Industries in' a second report on the Bretton Woods "final act" draws the conclusion, as in its interim report last November, that the United Kingdom should continue to support the final act if the United States Congress approves it as it now stands. The report says that the way to the restoration of the system of freely working multilateral trading lies not through the meticulous elaboration of complex rules or procedures. Economic welfare was not so easily' discharged but called for processes of adjustment, compromise and co-operation between those in whose hands would reside the power to produce it. The final act doubtless, as the years pass, would have to be modified or adapted to meet- changes in circumstances and world environment.
"It is in this spirit that the federation reached a conclusion favouring United Kingdom support even if the United Kingdom was unable to secure at the present all the amendments and modifications it desired," it said.
