THIEVES' CIGARETTE HAUL

P.A. AUCKLAND, June 22.

About 60,000 cigarettes, valued at be-J tween £200 and £250, were stolen from the store sheds of A. B. Wright and Sons, Ltd., Customs forwarding and receiving agents, Newton Koad, last night. Thieves broke two padlocks on the doors opening on to the street, removed the cigarettes, which were packed in 17 wooden cases, from a motor truck and apparently loaded them into a waiting vehicle. The burglary was discovered when an employee of the firm arrived at the prerrases this morning.

A total of 219 small cases of cigarettes, valued at about £3000, had been received by the firm on Thursday afnoon for delivery to warehouses in the city. As it was too late to distribute them that day, the cases were left on the truck, which was parked in the store. When it was found this morning that the premises had been broken into a tally was made of the cases, and 17 were missing.
