TIONS

"The New Zealand Surf Life-saving Association records its heartfelt gratitude of the cessation of hostilities in Europe and rejoices in the magnificent victory gained by the Allies," stated a motion passed at a recent meeting of the council of the association. "The crushing of an eyil and inhuman foe is a triumph of right over might, and our gratification can best be expressed by a determination to maintain and uphold the traditions for which this war has been fought. We pay our humble tribute to the fighting qualities of Great Britain and her Dominions' gallant forces and her Allies, and mourn, with others, the loss of so many brave men. May their sacrifices strengthen us in our resolve to continue the struggle until peace is finally won." Congratulations were also extended to the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in a further resolution. "The council of the New Zealand Surf Life-saving Association, on behalf of its members, extend to the 2nd New Zealand Division their profound admiration and congratulations on the brilliant part it played and its notable achievements in assisting the Allies to victory. The valiant and heroic deeds of the Division have thrilled the people of the Dominion and the reputation they have earned has merited the high approbation accorded to it from all sources. The outstanding leadership of Lieut-General Freyberg is of particular interest to the members of our association, and fills us with pride, as does the part so ably' played by our members, many of whom have paid the supreme sacrifice. We look forward with confidence to final victory, firm in the belief that the Division will continue to add to its prestige. We are conscious of our part in assisting that victory."
