FOURTEEN FARMS

FOR SOLDIER SETTLEMENT

Fourteen farm units are shortly to be made available to ex-servicemen graded "A" bjr their rehabilitation committees for dairy, sheep, and mixed farming. Eight of the sections are in Ellicott's block, about 15 miles south-east of Te Awamutu. One ,is a dairy farm, two are mixed farms, and five are for intending sheep farmers. All these sections will be allotted on leasehold with the option of agreement for sale and purchase, known as the Bryant tenure. They have all houses of the three-bedroom type, with electric power, and there is a school on the block. The dairy farm end mixed farms have cowsheds with plant a*nd also piggeries, and there is a community woolshed and other facilities for the sheep farming units. There are two sections nine .males from Whangarei. They are dairying units and also allotted on renewable leasehold, with the Bryant tenure as an alternative. There is a five-roomed dwelling on each property. The remaining four units are part of the Awarua farm settlement, about 16 miles from Taihape, and are open to ex-servicemen graded "A" for sheep farming in the Wellington and Taihape land districts. The successful ballotees will work on the properties on a wages basis till certain improvements have been made, when they will have the option of taking over a lease. The settlement is already stocked wjth sheep and cattle, and these should be allocated to the various sections when the development work is finished.
