Of. 700 German U-boats estimated to I be sunk during the war, 462 were sunk by the British forces or Allied forces operating with the British, 100 were sunk by the ft.A.F. Bomber Command, and mines, and 151 were sunk by United States or Allied forces operating with the United States forces.
Of the. 462 .sunk by the British forces, ;205£ wove sunk by ships, 179 J 2 by shore-;-<basp.& aircraft, 18i by carrier-borne airjCr^tft, 21£ jointly by ship-borne and more-based aircraft, four jointly by [ship-borne and carrier-borne aircraft, ;25 by submarines; and eight by bombing raids on U-boats afloat in port. ■ The total of U-boats sunk by all British, United States, and Allied aircraft was 224.—8.0.
