On Okinawa elements of the 6th Marine Division have moved into position on the right flank of the Ist Division. The 6th Division brought heavy pressure on enemy positions from both north and south of Oroku Peninsula, says Admiral Nimitz's communique. Enemy resistance in this area has been heavy.
The Ist Marine Division continued its attack southwards towards Kunishi Ridge. Enemy positions on the Jaejudake escarpment were under heavy fire from the fleet, field artillery, and aircraft throughout the day.
