CYCLING CONTROL

NEW ZEALAND AMATEURS

A decision to revive the national track championships this season and to provide for a 100-mile senior road championship was made at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association, held in Wellington on Saturday. The track championships are to be conducted by the West Coast (N. 1.) Centre at Wanganui. The retiring chairman (Mr. P. N. Robinson) spoke of the sport's progress through a difficult period, and the reports by various centres showed that the progress was all that could be desired, considering the difficulties of the war period. The Hawke's Bay Centre had gone into recess, but it was likely to renew activity in the near future. Altogether, an optimistic view could be taken of the prospects for the future. He expressed appreciation of the action of the N.Z.A.A.A. in promoting cycle races at athletic meetings during the war. Officers were elected as follows: — Patron, Mr. A. R. Thomas; president, Mr. P. N. Robinson; vice-presidents, presidents ,of affiliated centres; chairman, Mr. C. H. Preston; hon. secretarytreasurer, Mr. I. M. Plimmer; hon. auditor, Mr. L. C. Hendren; delegates to Olympic Association, Messrs. Robinson, Preston, and O. Scotney; executive, officers ex-officio and Messrs. D. T. Woodfield and Scotney; reinstatement committee, Messrs. Robinson and Preston.

Auckland remits that both banked and grass track championships be conducted and that Nelson and Marlborough clubs be affiliated with a South Island centre were lost. Banked track championships were approved, as was a condition (on Wellington representation) that contenders for North or South Island championships must be residents of the island to which the championships apply. An Auckland remit to the effect that the centre with the greatest number of registrations in each five-yearly period be given the option of controlling the association was discussed and it was decided that, as the rules provided for a change of venue, the position could be reviewed at a later date.
