NEW WHEAT CONTROL
SCHEME TO AVOID FAMINE
LONDON, June 8,
It is officially announced in Beirut today that agreement has been reached between the Governments of the Levant countries and the British Army authorities on the duties and powers of the new wheat control,, known as MIRA, which replaces the former organisation run jointly by the British and French armies. The British War Office has advanced 3,000,000 Syrian pounds to start it off, and the Govern-; ments of Syria and the Lebanon have agreed to.make contributions. " /
The organisation will. control the collection and, distribution of 250,000 tons of wheat, during the next year; A British Army spokesman said it was a temporary arrangement, without political significance. It rheant that there would,be no wheat/famine. .
