HUTT VALLEY MILK

RAW OR PASTEURISED

CHOICE FROM TOMORROW

As from tomorrow morning all householders in the Lower Hy^tt and Petone areas will be able to exercise the right of choice between the present supply of raw milk and bottled pasteurised milk from the Wellington City Council depQt. The present scheme of milk zoning in the Hutt Valley will terminate today, and tomorrow morning milk vendors will ' take up new zones under a re-zoning scheme designed to secure a more economical supply of milk in the areas concerned.

The details of the scheme were inspected yesterday by the Mayor of Lower Hutt (Mr. Andrews) and. the Mayor of Petone (Mr. Green). Under the terms of the agreement made with the Milk Marketing Division, most milk vendors have made personal calls or have circularised their new clientele to ascertain their wishes.

For the benefit of Hutt Valley residents who may. not have been contacted by their new vendors, the following are the main conditions contained in the agreement:—(l) Front gate delivery (which is 6ft inside the boundary), with invalids and old persons entitled to front door delivery; (2) residents desiring a continuation of their present surlply of raw milk will put out their containers in the usual way; (3) residents • desiring . bottled pasteurised milk will be supplied under the same conditions as residents of the Wellington City area, namely, in pint bottles for which the consumer is required to make an initial payment of 4d each. Residents are urged to make an initial purchase of sufficient bottles to cover their normal requirements at least; (4) as milk will be supplied early on Sunday morning, residents who have not been contacted should indicate tonight their preference for raw or pasteurised milk, and in'the case of the latter preference also.include the necessary deposit for bottles.
