CLOTHING FOR GREECE
THANKS EXPRESSED
In a letter to Mr. J. ft. Boyes, Public Service Commissioner, the ConsulGeneral of Greece in New Zealand, Mr. T. F. V, Seddon, conveys the thanks of the 'Government of Greece to the N#w Zealand Council of Organisation for Relief Service Overseas for the gift of 404 • cases of warm clothing for winter relief in Greece. The letter continues:
•"Will you please also convey the appreciation of the Greek Government to the 20 Voluntary agencies coordinated Uhder CORSO, which collected the 40,000 garments, and to the voluntary workers of the New Zealand Red CroSs Society and the- Lady Galway Patriotic Society ahd the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, which bodies sorted, rhehded, and packed the clothes. . '■• ■.••'- ---' "The Greeks resident in Wellington intend personally to meet Brigadier J, T. King to thahk him for interesting himself on behalf of the suffering Greeks resident in the homeland. . , "it may interest people ih New Zealand who-have given clothing to be sent to Greece to know: how much their gifts are appreciated. The locai Greek Patriotic Fund Committee, of Which Mr; Jahis is secretary, collected, pafcked, and sent Clothes 'for our suffering brothers and sisters in our dear homeland, Greece,' and the secretary oh May 22 received a letter from Athens, of which the following is a translation:—'Your liote of 9/10/44, which was found. by me, a poor labourer of the M-L, in one of the.cases containing clothes, which Was sent by you, the true Greeks of New Zealand, moved me and all my fellow-workers emotionally. I am taking the opportunity in these few lines to say to our brother New Zealanders a big "Thank-you" for their idealisms ahd interest, and With tears in my eyes to ask you all to continue the philanthropic act which you' have undertaken, • assured that you are relieving your suffering brothers and aiding irt the rebuilding Of Greece, With the gratitude of all the workers of the M-L and all the' Greeks here.—(Sgd.) "Please assure" the members of the dif_ereht organisations I h_ive already mentioned of the appreciation by the Greeks resident ih New Zealand and by the CoVerhment of Gi'eece for their geherotts gifts," concludes Mr. Sfeddom.
