NO GAS

AFTER 7 TONIGHT COAL SUPPLIES LOW There will be no gas in Wellington after 7 o'clock this evening owing to shortage of coal supplies, the general manager of the Wellington Gas Company, Mr. M. J. Kennedy, said today. It is hoped to provide a restricted service for the cooking of breakfast and dinner tomorrow. "Owing to the fact that our coal supplies are practically exhausted, the company will be unable to provide gas after 7 o'clock tonight," said Mr. Kennedy. "The position will deteriorate unless supplies come to hand shortly, and our latest advice is that no coal boats left Westport or Greymouth for Wellington today." WEATHER ON THE COAST

Weather reports from the South Island suggest that bar conditions today are difficult. Yesterday morning a south-west gale set in along the coast, causing rough seas and a swell. Today the wind had died down, but the swell was still running.
