TRIBUTES PAID

When the news of Mr. Jordan's death was conyeyed to the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government at its sitting today a motion was passed expressing profound sympathy with Mrs. Jordan. Reference was made by several speakers to Mr. Jordan's contribution to local government in the Dominion.

A tribute to Mr. Jordan's work and his helpfulness was paid by Mr. Parry, as Minister in Charge of Local Government. It was with great regret that he had learned of Mr. Jordan's death, said the Minister Mr. Jordan had been a great source of strength to local body government in this country. During the whole of his experience in the administration of local government he had never met a more helpful man in that sphere of activity. Mr. Jordan was unselfish and always willing to discuss any contentious matters that arose. Mr. Parry also referred to Mr. Jordan's work in the Dominion's patriotic movement, first as chairman of the National Patriotic Council which operated for some time as an advisory body, and later as a member of the National Patriotic Fund Board.
