POLICE PROMOTION

Detective N. J. McPhee, of the detective branch, Central Police Station, Wellington, has received notice of oromotion to detective-sergeant. Mr. McPhee has been . stationed in Wellington for the past 18 years. He was a foundation-member of the Police Pipe Band, of which he is pipe major, and has been responsible for the inquiries into a large number of m'ominent cases which have come- before the Wellington Courts in recent years. .

Maunsell, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to a charge of being idle and disorderly in that he had insufficient lawful means of support.
