OBITUARY

MR. ANDREW HAMILTON, SEN.

The death occurred in a private hospital in Wellington on Wednesday of Mr. Andrew Hamilton, sen., a highlyrespected resident of Wellington, and ■a well-known business man. ' M|i\ Hamilton, who was in his 89th year, was born at Castleblayney, Northern Ireland, and came to New Zealand at the age of 19 years. He entered business in Greymouth and subsequently moved to Wellington, where for a period prior to his retirement he held the licence of Barrett's Hotel, Lambton Quay.

Mr. Hamilton was a very keen bowler, and was a member of the Wellington Bowling Club for 55 years. He was one of the original members

when it was a proprietary club. He was treasurer for six years, but resigned when he visited England. Subsequently he became president, and was a member of a rink which won the championship at Auckland. He was the donor of the Andrew Hamilton Cup, which is competed for annually in a friendly match between the Wellington and Hutt Bowling Clubs. Shortly after going to live in Karon, in 1908, he became a member of the Borough Council, and was one of those who fought strenuously for the amalgamation with the city. He was a shareholder and subsequent director of Hataitai Land Company. Mr. Hamilton leaves a widow and one son. Mr. Andrew Hamilton, jun.. president of the New Zealand Stock Exchange. -The late Mr. John K. Hamilton, of Wellington, was a brother, and the late Mrs. Hamilton Gilmer, of Wellington, a sister.
