EGYPT SENDS NOTE TO BIG POWERS
LONDON, May 25. The Secretary-General of the Arab League said in Cairo today that Egypt had sent a Note to the big Powers on the dispute in the Levant. The Note supported the views of the. Syrian and Lebanese Governments.
In Beirut. France's chief executive in Syria and the Lebanon told a correspondent that it was not up to the French to make the next move. He said there was no question of vanity in the matter and that France was still hopeful for an agreement acceptable to both sides. He said his personal opinion was that France would not refuse to discuss any agreement proposed by the Levant States, provided such an agreement guaranteed both the interests of Syria and Lebanon and those of France. He declared that the French had handed over control of every internal function in the Levant State. They only controlled the army and military communications.
