WAR GRATUITY
PAYMENT TO BE MADE
P.A. HAMILTON, May 25. The question of gratuities for members of the Armed Forces was referred to last night by the Acting Prime Minister, Mr. Nash, who said that the matter had been given consideration by the Government and, though it was not in a position at the moment to make a full statement on the subject, he could indicate that it was proposed .to make generous provision in the way of gratuities for both men who had served overseas and for men who served in New Zealand, even though there would be some difference in the amount for the two.types of service. The Government was at the moment considering the best way in which the gratuity could be paid in order to ensure the fullest possible benefit to returned and home servicemen.. He expected to be able to make a full statement in the near future.
