SUCCESSFUL SESSION

A successful three-day School of Theology. conducted under the auspices of the Wellington branch of the National Council of Churches and presided over by the Rt. Rev. the Bishop of Wellington and the Rev. W, A. -Burley, completed its sessions in Wellington this week. The Rev. R. W. Simpson was secretary. The Rev. J. M. Bates gave three lectures on "Revelation in the New Testament." Papers were presented on the subject, "The Churches as They See and Declare Themselves" by the following: The Rev. J. A. Jermyn (Anglican), the Rev. P. C. Lanyon (Baptist), Mr. E. P. C. Hollard (Churches of Christ), the Rev. C. G. H. Bycroft (Congregational), the Very Rev. D. D. Scott (Presbyterian), the Rev. W. A... Burley (Methodist), and Colonel Smith (Salvation Army). Other subjects and speakers were "The Church in- the New Testament" (the Rev. J. D. Grocott). "Evangelism Today" (the Rev. L. A. North), "The Causes of Fragmentation in the Protestant Churches" (the Rev. W. C. Comber), "The Place of Preaching Today" (the Rev. Canon Da vies), "The Church in the Crucible of War" (the Yen. Archdeacon Rich), "The Implications of Denominationalism" (the Rev. L. N. Watkins), "The Church and the State" (the Rev. P. Gladstone Hughes), -'The Church in the Post-War World" (the Rev. M. L. Underhiil, C.F.. and the Rev. L. V. Bibby). Clergymen attended from the whole of the Wellington Province, and a good proportion of lay men and women was present. An average attendance, of 70 was registered at the various sessions.
