President Truman b<as sent a message of congratulation to Field-Marshal Alexander which says:«— "On this momentous occasion of the surrender of the German armed forces in Italy, I convey -to you from the President and people of the United States the congratulations on the signal success of the Allied sirmies, navies, and air" forces under y6ur command, which was gained only "by persistent and heroic effort through ttnany months of a most difficult campaign. I send also to you personally our appreciation of the high order of your leadership, which has conducted our armies Ito their complete victory." The President also sent a message of congratulation to General Mark Clark.—B.O.W. «
