SHAKESPEARE SOCIETY
A meeting of the Wellington Shakespeare Society, attended by 140 members and friends, was held at the Central Library last week to commemorate the 381 st Shakespeare anniversary. The president, Dr. O. C. Mazengarb, gave a short address on "Shakespeare, Countryman and Master Influence in Music," and a musical programme was given, directed by Mr. Karl Atkinson, introduced by Mr. H. P. yon Haast, with Mr. Clement Howe as conductor. The following took part:—Mr. F. M. Cordery; tenor solos, Mr. Roy Hill; scene from "Romeo and Juliet," Miss Mary Annette Burgess, Mrs. Pauline Burgess, Mr. F. C. Tears, and Miss Lucy Cowan; soprano solo, Miss Myra Sawyer; scene from "Much Ado About Nothing." Mrs. J. K. Kadie, Mr. J. Holly, Mr. E. C. Feltham, Mr. D. A. Herbert, and Mrs. C. G. Bloore; ladies' choruses, the Victory Troubadours; prologue from "Henry the Eighth," Miss Sybil Williams; piano recital,. Miss Bessie Pollard; scene from "Henry the Eight." • Mrs. Clarice Ross, Dr. Mazengarb, Mr. F: M. Cordery. Mr. F. C. Pears, Mr. W. G. Ross, and Mr. H. F. yon Haast;" baritone-solo, Mr. Ken Maeaulay; scene from "The Tempest," Dr. Mazengarb, Mr. H. F. Yon Haast, and Mr. S. F. McLean. The accompanists were Miss Kola Pritchard and Mr. Clement Howe. •
