PARTY FOR EVACUEES
WATERSIDERS ENTERTAIN
A party arranged and financed entirely by waterside workers was given recently on an overseas vessel. The guests were 150 children, all evacuees from China, Hong, Kong, and Malaya, who were travelling to England with their parents, after a long stay in Australia. The men took the hat round and collected than £20, which was spent on sweets,' cakes, jellies, ice cream, soft drinks, and water melon. The Junior Watersiders' Band, whose members range in age from 8 to 16, played during the afternoon, and the Ist Battalion Wellington Regimental Pipe Band was very popular with the children, who watched with enjoyment the Highland dancing by Gracie McKay and Keith Muir. This was the third party .of its kind to be given by the waterside workers for youngvisitors.
