TOWARDS RANGOON

14TH ARMY'S OFFENSIVE

Rec. 9 a.m. BOMBAY, April 29. A South-east Asia Command communique says that on the 14th Army front, troops driving south down the road towards Rangoon have encountered stiff opposition immediately south of the sixty-second milestone. Allanmyo, on the east bank of the Irrawaddy, four miles north-east of Thayetmyo, has been captured.
