Tlie annual .report of the M.L.C. Assurance. Co., Ltd., for 1944 states that the number of life assurance policies in • force at. the end of the year was 892,090 assuring (with bonuses) the sum of £122,181,026. ■ In the ordinary branch, 24,195 new policies were written, assuring £9,028,179. The premium income amounted to £2,897,523, the total income being £4,123,223.. The expense rate was 10.96 per cent of the premium income. Calculated on the total income, the rate was 7.71 per cent. In the industrial branch, 6.7,680 new policies were written, assuring £4,715,581. The premium income amounted to £1,686,956, the total income being £2,074,60 G. The expense rate was 24.85 per : cent. ■of the premium income. Calculated on the total income, the rate was 20.21 per cent. *
