BURSARY AWARD

NEW ZEALAND AIRMAN

KING'S COLLEGE, CAMBRIDGE

The Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) has given his approval to the award of a bursary tenable for two years at King's College, Cambridge, to Flight Lieutenant D. H. Tudhope, D.F.C. and Bar, of Hamilton. The bursary is worth £100 a year.

Some time ago the New Zealand War Cabinet decided that five bursaries offered by the authorities of King's College, Cambridge, should be available to Army and Navy disabled personnel, as well as Air personnel. The Minister of Defence later ruled that personnel unaffected by war injuries would also be eligible for a bursary. Ordinary service pay and allowances are to be drawn by bursary holders.

Flight Lieutenant Tudhope was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross in June, 1944, and received the Bar to that decoration last February. The citation to his latest award has just been received by the Air Department and states that he has completed many more operational sorties, since the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross. The targets included Berlin. "Throughout," the citation adds, "his j unflagging enthusiasm and efficiency. I and his exemplary courage in the face of enemy opposition^ have proved a high example to all."'

As his decorations indicate, Flight Lieutenant Tudhope has had a distinguished service career. He was recommended for the bursary by the High Commissioner in London (Mr. W. J. Jordan) and R.N.Z.A.F. Headquarters. Prior to joining the Army and his enlistment in the R.N.Z.A.F. in August, 1941, was employed by Messrs. Meredith Meredith, and Kerr, barristers and solicitors, Auckland. He attended the Hamilton. High School and the Wanganui Collegiate School and qualified fora university boarding bursary. Flight Lieutenant Tudhope completed eight subjects for. the degree of Bachelor of Laws. His father is Mr. W. Tudhope, 1 Rostrevor Street, Hamilton.
