SMASHED BY R.A.F.

BANGKOK POWER PLANT

RUGBY, April 16. The smashing of the Siamese Government's electric power plant in Bangkok by R.A.F. Liberators in daylight yesterday is thought to have seriously disrupted the city's transport. The plant not only supplies the whole of the south side of the city with light and power, but also provides power for the tramway network. Its output is 19,000,000 units a year. Bombs went down in a dense concentration, and photographs show that the power-house was destroyed and the adjacent- buildings heavily damaged. A violent explosion was observed. A large warehouse was wiped out.

The crews could see a 5000-foot column of smoke when 30 miles on their way back to base. The bombers making the 2200-mile round trip went in singly from several directions. The raid lasted for 25 minutes.—B.O.W.
