taken in a few more days, reports the Associated Press correspondent aboard. Admiral Richmond K. Turner's flagship at Iwo Jima.
Lieut.-General Smith confirmed the report that the enemy was suffering from a shortage of drinking water. The advancing marines are finding caves with many enemy dead. The Japanese are attempting to hide their casualties. There is evidence of suicides.
The American casualties are becoming relatively smaller each day as the men become battlewise. Tokio radio said that after a terrific naval bombardment the Americans commenced an all-out attack on Iwo Jima yesterday. Sanguinary battles are now raging.
