FIRE AT STRONGMAN MINE
GREYMOUTH, February 26. The Strongman State mine did not work today, the men returning home as the result of a fire having occurred in the pit on Saturday. A small outbreak was noticed on Saturday inside the mine, but was rapidly extinguished with water. The management and inspectors declared the mine safe to work in this morning, but the men decided to wait for another,24 hours until toj morrow as a further safety measure. This means the loss of about 550 tons, of coal.
