BOMBING A BLESSING
Rec. 9 a.m. NEW YORK, Feb. 23! Describing the sinking of the Japanese ship by an American plane on December 12, 1944, Lieutenant George Petritz said the sinking was actually a blessing because it saved many from suffocating in the jammed and airless holds.
Before the bombing 30 prisoners died of suffocation. The Japanese did not permit removal of the bodies, and the survivors remained huddled with the corpses.
Lieutenant Petritz expressed the opinion that 90 per cent, of the prisoners would have been suffocated to death.
