FUTURE OF WOOL
LONDON MEETING
N.Z. REPRESENTATIVES
hew Zealand will be represented at a conference to be held in London in April to survey the future wool situation.
The Prime Minister (Mr. Fraser) said last night that New Zealand's representatives would be: Mr. G. A. Duncan, Director, Export Division, Marketing Department. Messrs. N. R. Jameson, W. Horrobin, and H. M. Christie; members of .the Wool Board, Mr. C. G. Trotter, president, New Zealand Woolbrokers' Association. Mr. Albert Smith, member, Woolbuyers' Association.
Mr. Fraser stated that a representative of the Treasury, possibly Mr. B. C. Ashwin, Secretary of the - Treasury, would also join the delegation. The Prime Minister said that the Government of the United Kingdom had invited the Governments of Aus-
tralia, South Africa, and New Zealand to send representatives to the conference. Its purpose would be to survey the whole future wool position, with a view to reaching agreement on a long-term marketing plan, providing for co-ordinated arrangements for the disposal both of the surplus "stocks resulting from the wartime arrangements, and of the Dominion clips which would come forward before the stocks were disposed of.
"The Government," said Mr. Fraser, "regards this conference^ as an important first step towards a solution of the problem confronting the United Kingdom and the Dominions arising from the very considerable accumulated world stocks of wool, and after the deliberations the delegation would report back to the Government on the proposals formulated at the conference. Mr. Duncan would act as chairman of the New Zealand delegation."
