COUNCIL OF CHURCHES
r The youth committee of the National Council of Churches in New Zealand held its first annual meeting at Frederic Wallis House during ■ the weekend. Most of the Dominion Christian youth organisations were represented, delegates from the Anglican Church, Presbyterian Church* Methodist Church, Baptist Church, Chuch of Christ, Salvation Army, Y.W.C.A., V.M.C.A., Boy Scouts' Association, Student Christian Movement, and the Girls' Life Brigade being present.
Dr. John Henderson, .theological professor at Knox College, Dunedin, who recently arrived from Scotland, was a guest of the conference and delivered three lectures on "The Present Situation"; Miss Jean Campbell, of the New Zealand Y.W.C.A., who spent several •months last year in the United States, spoke on "Trends in Young People's Work in U.S.A."; and Flight Lieutenant Briggs, of the R.N.Z.A.F., spoke on "Trends on Youth Work in Australia"; Mr. L. Buckton addressed the conference on "The Church's Approach to Modern Youth"; and the Rev. H. W. Newell, Dominion secretary of the National Council of Churches, spoke on the relevance of the recent educational conference to youth work in New Zealand.
Much time was devoted to the discussion of policy matters and to plans for co-operative effort in the future. It was decided to hold a National Youth Week from. August 26 to September 5, the theme of the week to be "Vocation."
