p.A. INVERCARGILL, December 28. The first four games in the section play in the pairs championships in the South. .Island bowling tournament .were played yesterday. Th© weather became so hot in the early afternoon, that several - elderly players retired in a state of collapse. They were allowed substitutes. At the end of the day 11 pairs were undefeated and 35 had scored three wins.

Section play in the pairs was completed in the morning, 27 pairs qualifying, and a start \vas made in the afternoon on the post-section play in both the pairs, and singles. • After two rounds of post-section play in the singles nine players remain. They are G. Will (Caversham), W. White (Winton R.S.A.), J. Ure (Xorthend), W. Spencer (R.S.A.), W: J. McKay (Roslyn), R. Reid (Ohai), P. A. Thomson (Waikuvi), J. Burleigh (Ohai), and J. A. Irael (Raituna). -
