RUSSO-BRITISH TRADE

The first steps towards extensive post-war trading operations between Britain and Russia are announced by the London "Daily Mail." Leading British industrialists and representatives of a U.S.S.R. trade delegation held a private meeting in London. The importance of reciprocal trading as the best basis for maintaining good post-war relations between Britain and Russia was stressed by Lord Bennett. Britain's enormous material aid to the Soviet Union during the war^ramounting to £269,500,000 by June, 1944—has included, apart from military supplies, vast quantities of industrial equipment. Typical examples of the latter are the mobile power station and giant transformers designed and built especially to Russian requirements. These have been of particular value in large-scale emergency reconstruction work. The industrial goods that Britain can supply in peace will be equally vital to Russia's postwar recovery.
