PETONE'S COAT OF ARMS
The question of a new coat of arms for the Petone Boroush was raised by Councillor P. K. London last evening. iHe thought the present coat of arms too archaic. ! Councillor J. T. Can* considered that it was too materialistic; it should be more symbolic and perhaps more poetic. ! Councillor A. M. Macfarlane said the | council should move slowly in the matter as his understanding of: a coat of arms was that the more archaic it was the better. . Petone's coat of arms went back to. 1884. The Town Clerlc~~i3- r> . to inquire whether it would be leg§Kbr wise tn make a change. ) The Petone coat of arms^represents the industries of the district as they were at' the time the design was adopted, the principal features being the railway workshops. Gear -meat works, arid the woollen mills.
