DESIRE FOR DEBATE

AMENDMENT IN COMMONS

Rec. 11.15 a.m. LONDON, Dec. 5. The Press Association's lobbyist says that members of the House of Commons are drawing up an amendment to the Address in Reply motion drawing attention to the situation in Greece and Belgium, with the object of ensuring a debate in the next day or two. Another amendment may broach the question of whether it would not be better for the British forces to take charge in Greece. The political secretary of the Independent Labour Party, Mr. Fenner Brockway. commenting on the situation in Greece, said that orders given by General Scobie which" were not backed up by Mr. Churchill showed that the Government was siding with the Right against the Left in Greece, and the consequences might be serious. Athens would set a pattern for Europe, and relations with Russia might be affected.

The guide [returned and boasted that his mission had been successful. In fact, fie had stolen all the New Zealander's gear. Infuriated at the man's treachery, the manager had him searched and found in his possession a wristlet watch. Mr. Nicolinakos had no means of identifying the New Zealander, and inquiries seemed to indicate that he had escaped. For three and a half years Mr. Nicolinakos kept the watch, hoping to find some means of restoring it to the owner. At last came liberation, and he took it to the military office in Athens. It is a Pierce watch, bearing the inscription, "To Milton; from mother and father. Mizpah; 1? and the date 25/2/40. This offers the only sibility of tracing, the owner; -■';-^
