RESUMED IN DAYLIGHT

BATTLE OF BERLIN

NAZI FIGHTERS BEATEN

LONDON, December 5. The massive air assault on Germany was kept up again today when American heavy bombers attacked Berlin and other targets, and Lancasters went for the railway marshalling yards at Hamm. The attack on Berlin, the first one in daylight for about two months, was made by most of the total of over 550 Fortresses and Liberators sent out. The rest of the planes struck heavy blows at the railway yards at Munster. Included in the attack on Berlin was a blow at a big munitions and tank plant in a suburb of Berlin. The Luftwaffe sent up hundreds of fighters. The escort of about 800 planes shot down 91 Nazi machines in fierce air battles. The blow to the Luftwaffe was so effective that the second wave of bombers attacked almost unmolested. Twelve bombers and 22 fighters are missing, but 11 fighters are believed to have landed in friendly territory. This afternoon, R.A.F. Lancasters escorted by Mustangs and Spitfires attacked the railway marshalling yards at Hamm. The Spitfires destroyed three Messerschmitts. One aircraft is missing. R.A.F. Spitfire bombers attacked without loss a V 2 site in Holland.
