DELICACIES BY AIR

SERVICE TO PACIFIC SICK AND WOUNDED

' P.A. AUCKLAND, This Day. Ripe luscious strawberries picked that morning have been among the delicacies enjoyed by sick and wounded Allied servicemen in hospital in New Caledonia since air transport of fruit and vegetables started from Auckland to the Pacific a fortnight ago. Obviously only a limited quantity of such perishable goods can be taken by air, and the utmost care is taKen to see that they are consumed where they will do most good—among sick and wounded convalescent men from the forward areas. Milk, meat, and other food have been transported by air to the islands over the last year or so, but only recently have fresh vegetables and local fruits been included. The experiment has been highly successful. .."To men who have lived for months on service rations and been physically broken by war the sight of fresh frflit and vegetables is a great morale builder and the service is very greatly appreciated by our bays," said an .American officer today.
