AN ADVERSE BALANCE

~ J - Oul h not a^ &Sh as the previous year s figures, the balance of trade against New Zealand- as revealed in the latest overseas trade summary by the Customs Department, is still substantial,. the .'figure for the ten months . ended October 31 last being £17,918,000. For the corresponding period last year the total was £ £22,088,000. In 1942 s?oo^Si^SS? -at the en<i of October was £28,071,000 in the Dominion's favour. Exports for thq period under review were a shade higher at £60,316,000, and were down a little at i. 78,234,000, when compared with 1943. For the month of October last, ex- ' ports just failed to balance the imports, which were valued at £4,452,000.* and an unfavourable balance of £224,000 remained. The following tables compare the figjures for the last three years, the i amounts being in New Zealand cur- > rency. The import values include dej fence materials and equipment and - |lend-lease supplies. v • :
