£105,000 FOR UNIVERSITY
MELBOURNE, December 4.
A gift of £105,000 to Melbourne University for the purpose of establishing a new library was announced today. The gift was made by the trustees of the estate of the late Mr. E. L. M. Baillieu in memory of the testator's brother, the late Mr. W. L. -Baillieu, a former Victoriari Minister and prominent industrialist associated with many great Australian industries, including the Broken Hill mines.
At a meeting of the University Council today it was stated that the gift was the largest ever received in the history of the university. The vicechancellor. Mr. Medley, said that the money would make possible the fulfilment of the university's most urgent single need, the provision of a new library.
