NEW VICAR APPOINTED

ARCHDEACON E. J. RICH

P.A. MASTERTON, This Day. Archdeacon E. J. Rich, who has been Vicar of St. Matthew's Church for .14 years and Archdeacon of Wairarapa for four years, has been appointed Vicar of St. Peter's Church, Wellington, and Archdeacon of Wellington, in succession to the late"" Yen. W. Bullock." He will take up his new duties after next Easter. Archdeacon Rich came to Masterton from Taihape.

Archdeacon Rich who followed the late Archdeacon Bullock as Vicar of St. Matthew's, Masterton, in 1930, was born in Villa Rica, Paraguay, on February 8, 1894. Educated in Hawke's Bay, St. John's College, Auckland, and Victoria University College; Wellington, where he took his B.A. degree, he served in the last War with the New Zealand Medical Corps, from 1915 to 1919. After returning from th« war, he entered Holy Orders, and was qrdained deacon by the late Bishop Sprott in 1919, and priest in 1920. His first clerical appointment was curate' of St. Thomas's, Wellington South, in 1919, and two years later he became Vicar of St. Cuthbert's, Berhampore. From 1924. to 1930, when he went to Masterton, he was Vicar of St. Margaret's, Taihape. He is a past grand chaplain of the Masonic Grand Lodge of New Zealand.
