RUHR COMMUNICATIONS CENTRE

Rec. 12.10 p.m. RUGBY, Dec. 1. The Air Ministry states: "Aircraft of the R.A.F. Bomber Command last night made a heavy and concentrated attack on Duisburg, which is the main centre of communications at the westl--ern end of the Ruhr.

The pilot of a reconnaissance aircraft reported that a glow of very large fires was seen for a considerable distance after the attack.

Objectives at Hamburg were also bombed. Night fighters and intruders supported the bombers and attacked airfields, destroying at least two aircraft in combat.

Four of our aircraft are missing. Sixteen bombers and 17 fighters which were previously reported as missing from yesterday's United States Eighth Air Force attack against synthetic oil plants and railway yards in Germany are' safe, leaving 40 bombers and 13 fighters missing. At least eight fighters are believed to be safe in friendly territory.—B.O.W.
